Doctor Who shares a closer look at new David Tennant and Catherine Tate costumes

There doesn’t seem to be a day go past at the moment in the world of Doctor Who where there isn’t another surprise, twist or reveal of something new in the upcoming Doctor Who universe.

Still reeling from that regeneration at the end of The Power of the Doctor, the return of many of the classic Doctors and their companions, the move to Disney+ for international viewers and our first glimpse of Ncuti Gatwa in character as the Jodie Whittaker era ends, now we’re being treated to a closer look at the costumes that David Tennant and Catherine Tate will wear when they return to the show in 2023 as the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna Noble respectively.

The BBC shared images of the TARDIS and the costumes under the brand new Doctor Who logo at a stand at MCM Comicon in London on social media, teasing that fans could get their first “up close” look at the costumes.

For those lucky enough to be there this weekend, they can get very close to the new costumes, but for the rest of us we’ll have to make do with the pictures the BBC has provided, and the small snippets of both characters that we’ve already seen in the Doctor Who teaser reel for 2023.

Of course, the first question all Whovians will be asking themselves is, are there any clues about what’s going to happen in these costumes?

David Tennant and Catherine Tate were confirmed to be returning for the 60th-anniversary specials in November 2023 earlier this year, although that was before we saw the twists and turns of the Power of the Doctor.

At this stage, little is known about the plot of the 60th shows, but we know there will be three and it is thought that there will be more returning stars to the show as we saw recently in The Power of the Doctor.

It is not known how much of a role Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor will play in the episodes, although the teaser reel (see highlights above) suggests he may well be in them.

There are a number of theories about what might have led Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor to regenerate into David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor, but with a year to go until the shows are aired, it feel like there will be plenty more guessing and clues before we get any answers.
