Doctor Who showrunner: “the stuff we’re shooting now is off the scale”

New Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has teased fans of the BBC sci-fi show with talk of scenes being shot that are “off the scale.”

Speaking in a statement as part of the announcement of Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris joining the show, Davies excited audiences by saying: “It’s my huge honour to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris… but who, why, what is he playing? You’ll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we’re shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!”

Neil Patrick Harris, who is best known to many TV fans as the long running star of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, also recently worked with Russell T Davies on his powerful drama It’s A Sin, will according to an instagram post from Davies will play “the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced.” No further details have been revealed about the character, but the BBC has announced that the scenes that Neil Patrick Harris is currently filming will be included in the 6oth Anniversary special of the show expected in autumn of 2023.

Since the announcement that Ncuti Gatwa will replace Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor in 2023, it has also been revealed that Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney will be joining the show as well as a huge fan pleasing return for David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Doctor and Donna Noble.

It is expected that further big names from the past may be revealed to be taking part in the show closer to the event, and indeed, we’re sure that Davies will be keeping some surprises for the show itself.

Russell T Davies has previously said that he doesn’t want to reveal to much about the new Doctor Who experience for 2023 until after Jodie Whittaker’s final episode has been aired, which will also be the last episode that was created under the previous showrunner, Chris Chibnall.

Whittaker’s final episode will air in October 2022 as part of the BBC’s 100th anniversary celebrations for the Corporation. Although there are not a huge amount of details known about the show, we know that there will be a return of former foes in the shape of Cybermen and Daleks and that several former companions will also be returning for the show.
