Doctor Who announces brand new character and “multi-platform story”

Doctor Who has announced a brand-new character and multi-platform story as part of the 60th-anniversary celebrations of the show.

Launching later in 2023, the standalone cross-media series will allows Doctor Who fans to follow the fortunes of a new character, Doom, the Universe’s greatest assassin, as she travels through space and time in pursuit of the Doctor who can save her from Death.

Doom only has 24 hours to complete her mission, and armed with a Vortex manipulator she needs to make that time count – or things won’t end well.

Doom will be played by stand-up comedian, actor and sketch artist Sooz Kempner who will act as the face and voice of Doom. We are also told there will be a number of fan-favourite characters joining her in the adventures along the way.

Russell T Davies, showrunner of Doctor Who, said: “DOOM’S DAY is a huge new adventure for the whole Doctor Who universe – starring the brilliant and hilarious Sooz Kempner as an intergalactic assassin. Her adventures will span comics, audio, a novel, video games stories and more, expanding the world of Doctor Who into brand new territories. Beware the Doom’s Day, it’s coming for us all.”

Sooz Kempner added: “To be part of the Doctor Who universe, a British institution up there with cups of tea and James Bond, is surreal and amazing! I love everything about Doom and can’t believe I get to travel across time and space with her.”

The Doom’s Day adventure will begin on Doctor Who digital channels and be followed by products from Doctor Who Magazine, Titan Comics, Penguin Random House, East Side Games, Big Finish and BBC Audio, each telling a section of Doom’s story.

All of the different partners will focus on one of the hours that Doom has left on the clock.  There is also a planned overarching narrative which will play out before a finale is released on Doctor Who digital channels.

Doctor Who will return to TV screens in November 2023 for three special anniversary episodes starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor, joined by Catherine Tate as his companion Donna Noble. The shows will also feature Yasmin Finney as Rose and Neil Patrick Harris as an enemy of the Doctor.

An epic multi-Doctor audio adventure is also being released by Big Finish to celebrate the 60th birthday, including appearances from many of the Doctor actors and returning guest stars like Georgia Tennant who will reprise her role of Jenny the Doctor’s Daughter

Doctor Who season 14 will begin around the festive season of 2023 with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor joined by his new companion Ruby Sunday, played by the former Coronation Street star Millie Gibson.
