Barbie movie teaser trailer reveals first look at Ncuti Gatwa

Ncuti Gatwa has been pretty busy recently in the world of acting it seems!

Not only has he shot to stardom as one of the central characters in Netflix’s global hit coming-of-age drama Sex Education, but he’s also been cast as the Fifteenth Doctor in the long-running BBC sci-fi show Doctor Who.

But it’s not just on the small screen he’s making his mark it seems, Gatwa will be featuring on cinema screens across the globe next summer as one of a large and very starry cast in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie.

The first teaser trailer to the movie has been released which offers only a few tiny snapshots of the movie, but as well as giving us our first glimpse of the movies star Margot Robbie as the title character, we also get to see Ncuti Gatwa in a brief shot alongside Ken in the movie, played by Ryan Gosling.

There is precious little detail about the upcoming movie right now (indeed the IMDB synopsis simply reads “Barbie lives in Barbie Land and then a story happens”) but it is understood that Gatwa plays one of several Ken characters in the film, in which there will be a number of other Barbies too.

The romantic comedy movie has a lot of exciting names attached to it, most of whom are in unknown roles at this stage still.

Comedy heavyweight Will Ferrell is in the movie thought to be playing the CEO of Mattel, the company that makes the Barbie doll

Other actors in the cast include Ugly Betty and Superstore superstar America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Michael Cera, Alexandra Shipp and Kate McKinnon.

Also in the cast is someone who will make Ncuti Gatwa feel very much at home, his Sex Education co-star Emma Mackey who plays Maeve Wiley in the show opposite Gatwa’s Eric Effiong.

Ncuti also added a message about the movie to his Instagram.

“Destiny’s child but make it Barbie…
“Whew chile, you’re not ready for this adventure from the GENIUS Greta Gerwig: #BarbieTheMovie, in cinemas summer 2023″

The Barbie movie is our on July 21st in cinemas.

Gatwa will be seen in Doctor Who season 14 from the festive season of 2023 with a full run of episodes opposite his companion Ruby Sunday played by Millie Gibson in 2024.
