Prince Harry on the Royal Family: “The ball is in their court”
ITV has released a one-minute trailer for their much-anticipated interview with Prince Harry that will air on the commercial broadcaster in the UK on Sunday 8th January. In the clip Harry, whose book Spare is released next week, talks about his reasons for speaking out about his family in public and what his relationship might be like with in the future.
In the interview Tom Bradby asks Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex about his decision to talk about the Royal Family in his upcoming book.
Harry answers: “I don’t know how staying silent is ever going to make things better.”
Tom Bradby then asks; “Wouldn’t your brother say to you, ‘Harry, how could you do this to me after everything? After everything we went through?’ Wouldn’t that be what he would say?”
To which Harry answers: “He would probably say all sorts of different things.”
Bradby also probes Harry about how he can justify what might seem like an invasion of privacy for his family’s affairs through the revelations in the book.
“Some people will say you’ve railed against invasions of your privacy all your life and the accusation will be here are you invading the privacy of your nearest and dearest without permission, now that will be the accusation,” Bradby says.
Prince Harry answers: “That would be the accusation from people that don’t understand or don’t want to believe that my family have been briefing the press.”
There is also discussion in the clip of whether or not Harry will be involved in the coronation of his father King Charles which will take place this spring.
Asked whether he would attend the coronation if invited, Harry answered: “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then.
“But, the door is always open. The ball is in their court. There’s a lot to be discussed and I really hope that they’re willing to sit down and talk about it.”
When asked if he stills believes in the monarchy, Harry answers yes – but probed further about whether he will play a part in its future, he says “I don’t know.”
