The best horror comedy movies on Netflix
Sometimes all you want to know is what are the best horror comedy movies on Netflix.
I know. You’re not in the mood for comedy, and you’re not in the mood for horror. But combine the two and you’ll have exactly what you want for tonight’s movie night. Well, if that’s how you are feeling, you have come to the right place as we’ve selected a bunch of the best horror comedies that you can enjoy right away at the touch of a button if you’re a Netflix subscriber.
Yep, that’s quite the service we know – and it doesn’t cost a penny! Just like the excellent Screen OD YouTube channel where you can find the latest recommendations of what to watch and stream from movies to tv dramas, science fiction, entertainment, documentaries and much more. Perhaps you should check it out?
But we digress – you came here for horror comedy… and that’s what we’re going to give you. Whether the below are more horror than comedy or comedy than horror we’ll leave it for you to decide. But there’s a mix of Netflix originals and Hollywood classics to dip in and out of until you find the perfect blend…
Let’s do this…
Scary Movie
One of the best parody horror films, you name it they parody it in this excellent 2000 movie. From Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer to Halloween, The Shining and The Sixth Sense – no one gets away from lampooning in this horror comedy. The movie stars Anna Faris, Jon Abrahams, Carmen Electra, Shannon Elizabeth and Kurt Fuller to name a few – and is a very popular choice for comedy horror fans.
The Babysitter
If you’re looking for an all-out teen satanic horror comedy (yes, that is a strange phrase) you’ve come to the right place with this 2017 movie. Starring Samara Weaving who soap fans will know as Indy from Home and Away and more recently one of the stars of Nine Perfect Strangers, this movie follows the fortunes of Cole and his babysitter Bee, who he discovers is a member of a satanic cult. Yep, a bit awkward. Lots of jumps and laughs.

Tremors
What do you do when you want a horror comedy, but you also want a western? Well you watch Tremors, right? This 1990 original spawned an entire franchise around the ideas developed within it. The movie stars Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross and Reba McEntire and tells the story of a group of unassuming folks as they take on an underground enemy.
Day Shift
A 2022 film from Netflix with a big name cast including Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Meagan Good, Karla Souza, Steve Howey, Scott Adkins, and Snoop Dogg – this is one of those funny vampire films that will quickly have you hooked. At first glance, you think you’re following the story of a pool cleaner… but of course Bud Jablonski just does that as a day shift (get it) because at night he’s a vampire hunter. Why, of course he is!

Piranha
A remake of the 1978 horror film of the same name this is a movie that brings plenty of laughs as well as jumps (the combination that you’re surely looking for if you’re reading this article). With an impressive cast including stars Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Jerry O’Connell, Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd and Richard Dreyfuss to name but a few – you are in good hands when these people-eating fish end up on the loose.
Little Evil
A 2017 supernatural horror comedy starring Adam Scott (again) this time opposite Lost superstar and member of the Marvel gang Evangeline Lilly. After Scott’s character marries Lilly’s character he starts to believe that her son is the spawn of satan. I mean, who isn’t laughing at the set-up, actually the delivery on this idea is pretty good.
