Meryl Streep joins Only Murders in the Building season 3

Three times Oscar-winning actor Meryl Streep is joining the cast of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building for season three.

The legendary actor, best known for her performances in movies such as The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice and The Hours amongst many others, was unveiled in a short video clip on star Selena Gomez’s TikTok, reposted by the official Only Murders Twitter account.

In the video, Gomez introduces herself and the actors who will be reprising their roles in the mystery series. We see Martin Short, Steve Martin and Paul Rudd – before out of nowhere from behind a sofa, none other than Meryl Streep pops up holding a pillow.

No further details have been given about what part Meryl Streep will play in the popular series, but from the introduction given we can assume she’ll play a fairly major part in the new season of the show.

Only Murders in the Building is a comedy mystery-drama created by veteran Tv and movie comedy actor Steve Martin and John Hoffman. The show, which follows the characters of Martin, Short and Gomez bound by an interest in true crime, as they investigate a murder in the apartment block where they all live.

The show first aired on Hulu in the summer of 2021 and ran for ten episodes. A second season ran in June 2022, with a third season grenlit for production in July of 2022.

The show, which is available to watch in the UK on Disney+ has been received well by critics and fans alike and is expected to return at some point in 2023 for season three.

Although best known for her performances in award-winning movies and huge box office successes throughout the years, Meryl Streep has played television roles in the past. Most recently she was seen on screen for the second season of Big Little Lies on HBO where she played the part of Mary Lou Wright opposite Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz.
