Doctor Who reveals new logo to celebrate 60th anniversary

Doctor Who fans have a lot to be excited about right now. The BBC science fiction series has just seen a new deal inked between the BBC and Disney+ that will see the show get more investment and the opportunity to grow as a franchise globally, The Power of the Doctor saw the return of many classic Doctors and companions and there’s a new Doctor and companion coming at the end of 2023 in the shape of Ncuti Gatwa as Fifteen and Mille Gibson as Ruby Sunday under returning showrunner Russell T Davies

But before all that, there’s something else happening – the small matter of the 60th anniversary of the show which began its life on the BBC in November 1963.

We already know that there are to be three special hour-long episodes of the show to mark the occasion – starring the sensational return of David Tennant, this time as the Fourteenth, and Catherine Tate as his companion Donna Noble.

We’ll also see Neil Patrick Harris causing problems as an enemy, and expect to see other returning characters and special guests in the shows.

But for those who can’t wait until 2023, the BBC have begun celebrating the 60th a year early on Doctor Who Day by unveiling a new logo for the 60th year.

Recognising that the 60th anniversary is known as a diamond celebration, the new logo features a gleaming diamond wit the name of the famous show and “60 years” emblazoned across it.

The logo is accompanied by a message from the BBC that reads:

“This #DoctorWhoDay we’re celebrating the past, the present and the future!

Here’s your first look at a special #DoctorWho logo to celebrate the show’s diamond anniversary next year in 2023″

The logo was already updated recently when the BBC announced its new deal with Disney+ which will see the streamer as the new home of the show across the globe outside of the UK and Ireland.
