Ewan McGregor on Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2: “I hope we get the chance to do it again”

Ewan McGregor reprised his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the show of the same name in 2022 when Disney+ gave the Star Wars character a series of his own on the streaming platform, but the actor says he would love to work with Hayden Christensen again and perhaps make a season two.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was the first time we’d seen McGregor in the Star wars universe since Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and picks up the story of Obi-Wan ten years after the event of the film with the title character living on Tatooine overseeing the care of a young Luke Skywalker.

He is drawn away from the planet and back into combat when Leia Organa is abducted by Reva from the Galactic Empire, and the rest as they say is history (or the plot of the TV show.)

Speaking recently in a Disney Studio Awards online chat with Hayden Christensen, McGregor spoke of his desire to return to the role.

“I was so happy to do it again – and so happy to work with Hayden again, and I hope we get the chance to do it again.” said McGregor while talking about reprising his role for Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+.

He added: “In the old days, I would joke about; ‘There must be a good story to tell between ‘Episode III’ and ‘VI’

“But, it’s true. I always felt that there was. I feel like Deborah Chow found it and absolutely nailed it. Like just found the story that we wanted to see between the last one that we did and the first that was done in [1977].

“And I think it just adds to our knowledge of the characters, and it’s satisfying – for the fans.”

At this stage there hasn’t been any formal announcement from LucasFilm or Disney+ that there is going to be a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but this revelation from McGregor is sure to spur more fan excitement that it’s only a matter of time before Obi-Wan gets confirmed for season two.

May the crossed fingers be with you…
