Bake Off line-up

In the UK we are careering fast into entertainment season as the nights draw in and that means we’ve got announcements of lists of people coming thick and fast… We already know the Strictly line-up, but today its the turn of The Great British Bake-off to announce its contestants ahead of its start date next week on Channel 4 in the UK. Yep, Tuesdays are about to be full of soggy bottoms and mild culinary innuendo again.

Amongst those joining Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood are a nuclear scientist, a supermarket cashier, a self-confessed space nerd, an architect and a man with a dog called Nigel. Yep… it sounds like another classic series of the ratings gift that just keeps giving.

Cobra Kai season 5

Over on Netflix, martial arts fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Cobra Kai season 5, the fifth instalment of the sequel series to the classic Karate Kid movies.

However, it might be worth noting that this season may not be for the faint-hearted as Gianni DeCenzo, who plays Demetri, has teased the audience saying it will have the “most bloodshed we’ve seen”

Speaking to Digital Spy, the actor said: “If you get squeamish, you might need like a barf bag,” he continued. “I don’t know if you’re ready. I think this season gets intense – it’s dialled up to 11.

“Somehow, the creators always seem to outdo themselves each season. When the previous season comes out, you know, I’m always like, ‘I don’t know how you can top this’. And then the next one comes out. I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s how!'”

That’s some good promotional chat. Let’s hope the show lives up to the hype.

Cobra Ki season 5 returns to Netflix on September the 9th, so put a note in your diary and make sure you have your barf bags on standby.

House of the Dragon CGI

Over in fantasy land, it’s not taken fans long to find something to moan about in House of the Dragon, after eagle-eyed fans noted what they think is a CGI error in episode 3 of the Game of Thrones prequel.

Obviously we don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t watched any of HBO’s record-breaking show yet, but all we’ll say is look out for green fingers on Paddy Considine’s character Viserys in episode 3. You probably won’t spot it, so then type that into the internet and you’ll find lots of pics where fans have freeze-framed.

This is just like that coffee cup in Game of Thrones all over again. Why can’t everything always be completely perfect? It’s an outrage!

Ben Stiller and Sean Penn banned from Russia

In the world of movies, Ben Stiller and Sean Penn have reportedly been banned from Russia, reports Variety

Both Stiller and Penn have advocated for Ukraine since the country was invaded by Russia in February. Stiller has served as a goodwill ambassador to the UN on refugees and met President Zelenskyy. Penn has been on the ground in Ukraine making a documentary about the conflict and has spoken out about the war.

A Russian statement, translated in Variety, says Stiller and Penn are permanently banned on a “principle of reciprocity” along with other high-ranking people, business people and cultural figures from the US.

Adele’s EGO

And finally over to the Emmys now, we have the main primetime ceremony coming next week (and there’s a video on the Screen OD YouTube channel running through the nominees) but this week saw the Creative Awards play out.

One winner was singing superstar Adele who picked up the Emmy for for best outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) for her One Night Only show.

She’s took to Twitter to say: “Bloody hell I’m pleased as punch! Thank you Ben for dropping this round to me this afternoon!! Trust me to officially have an EGO Thank you so much @TelevisionAcad I’m so so honored to receive this.”

In “EGO”, she’s referring to having now won an Emmy, Grammy and Oscar – in fact, she’s got 15 Grammys and picked up an Oscar for the James Bond Skyfall soundtrack.

But she’s now only a Tony Award away from joining the exclusive EGOT club of winners of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. There are only 17 EGOTS including John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg and Andrew Llyoyd Webber.

If we see Adele writing a broadway musical anytime soon, we’ll know she’s looking to make the membership of the club 18!
