Doctor Who 60th trailer has a guest star no one noticed

It’s fair to say that there has been a lot of speculation around Doctor Who in the last few months.

The BBC series is certainly ramping things up to eleven as it enters its 60th year with a new showrunner in Russell T Davies at the helm delivering delicious clues and teases as we head towards two landmarks; the 60th specials in November, and the beginning of a new era when Ncuti Gatwa become the Doctor at Christmas.

And what is more, there’s all the talk of the deal between the BBC and Disney that makes Disney+ the new streaming home of Doctor Who, the bigger budgets and an expanding world of storytelling as the Whoniverse seems set to move to a new level with spin-offs very much on the agenda again.

But with all this going on, there hasn’t actually been much new footage for fans to enjoy from the new era. Save a few photos and that tiny weenie trailer of Doctor Who in 2023, true Whovians have been in a content drought for quite a while now. However, it turns out that even what little we have seen has clues that no one has noticed yet…

Hiding with his back to camera in the Doctor Who trailer we have seen is a guest star that no one has identified or noticed before.

Who is the mystery Doctor Who guest star?

About 30-seconds into the Doctor Who trailer we see a man walking into Mr Emporium’s Toy Shop with an umbrella and wearing a hat (above.) According to showrunner Russell T Davies, this is a guest star – but who is it?

“Wait a minute, who’s that? The man with an umbrella and his back to camera, walking into the bright red shop in the rain, who’s he? That’s a lovely guest star.,” Davies writes in his Doctor Who Magazine column.

Adding: “Wonderful actor. Walking past unnoticed. Wait and see!”

The three specials will air in November 2023 and we now that they will star David Tennant, Catherine Tate as Donna Noble and Neil Patrick Harris as an unnamed character. But it looks like the production has managed to sneak in some guests that no one has noticed – and you know what that means… there could be more.

Could there be room for more old companions like Jenna ColemanKaren Gillan or Arthur Darvill? Indeed, could we even see a return of former Doctors like Matt Smith?

It feels like there are going to be lots more exciting surprises for fans as we head towards the 60th anniversary – and then of course Doctor Who season 14 with Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson.

Season 14 of Doctor Who, which will feature Aneurin Barnard as the mysterious Roger ap GwilliamJemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Anita Dobson and Michelle Greenidge in as-yet unnamed roles, will play out across 2024.

Hold tight, it’s gonna be a wild ride.
