David Tennant and Michael Sheen return for Staged season 3
David Tennant and Michael Sheen will be back on our screens in Staged season three sooner than many fans had expected, with the third instalment of the comedy series arriving on 24th November.
However, unlike the previous two seasons of the acclaimed drama that first launched during the lockdown in 2020, season three of Staged will not be airing on the BBC or BBC iPlayer (at least in the first instance), as it will be exclusively available to subscribers of Britbox.
The show synopsis reads as follows: “Things have returned to normal for David and Michael. They have moved on from lockdown and returned to their everyday working life, while Simon’s career remains stagnant. His phone does ring, but only to ask if he can get David and Michael back together; and they’ve made it clear they want nothing more to do with him.
“But Christmas is approaching, and Simon hopes the warmth of the season might soften them to the idea of a radio version of a Christmas classic… but that’s as far as Simon’s plan has got!”

Created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, the show became a hit during the 2022 lockdown as it embraced video calling to make a show about fictionalised versions of the two lead actors rehearsing for a play. The second season offered viewers a twist in the “real” versions of David and Michael embarking on a new journey based on the success of the first season.
Season one of the show saw high-profile guests including Dame Judi Dench and Samuel L Jackson, with Whoopi Goldberg, Cate Blanchett and Jim Parsons among the big names in the second run of the show.
Tennant and Sheen will be reunited on screen in 2023 in Prime Videos Good Omens season two, and David Tennant will also be taking on a high-profile leading role as the Fourteenth Doctor in the 60th-anniversary specials of Doctor Who due to air in November 20223 before Ncuti Gatwa takes control of the TARDIS as Fifteen.
