Steven Moffat on Inside Man season 2
Inside Man starring David Tennant and Stanley Tucci has been one of the most talked-about TV shows on the BBC this autumn, not least because it’s seen the reuniting of Doctor Who alumni Steven Moffat, who writes the series, and former Doctor David Tennant, but because the twisty thrilling series has had everyone who’s watched it on the edge of their seats.
But as is the case with any shows that have won an audience, the big question remains… will there be a season 2 of Inside Man on the BBC? And this is before the show has even begun its release globally on streaming service Netflix.
Speaking before the release of the first season of Inside Man to Radio Times, Steven Moffat explained that the decision would lie in the hands of the viewers as ultimately they are the boss in the world of TV.

“The story will end in four episodes. It’s done by the end of that. As to whether or not you could ever spin off anything or do any kind of sequel? I don’t know at this moment.

“Television is littered with shows that had one season and pretended they could carry on – I would never want to be one of those, where you’re so excited to get a phone call about doing another run that you do it and then realise, actually, the story is finished.”
He went on to explain that since leaving the showrunning of Doctor Who, which was an all-consuming job (especially while also making the hit detective show Sherlock) he has been able to rediscover some of the ideas that he didn’t have time to work on at that time.
“I occasionally find them written on scraps and think, ‘Oh, I should do that!’ – it’s one of the nice things about no longer doing Doctor Who and Sherlock all the time, which is what I did for seven to eight years.
“Every time I had an idea, I had to stand on it unless it fitted into one of those shows. I just quashed it and threw it away, so it’s nice now, you can just think, ‘Oh, that’s an idea, I might go and do that, I might sell that’.”
Moffat has also recently said that he isn’t planning a return to Doctor Who anytime soon, despite Russell T Davies and David Tennant both returning to the show in different capacities in the coming year.
Davies is once again showrunning the BBC science fiction show after a sensational return this year, and David Tennant, along with Catherine Tate, will be back on the show as part of the 60th-anniversary celebrations in 2023.
