Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is a self-proclaimed romantic – however his actions make him stand out as someone who is not what most would describe as the typical boyfriend material. He will go to any lengths (including stalking murdering and kidnapping) to get close to women who have caught his eye. This creepy psychological thriller will draw you in as the screw turns and the story becomes more complicated and bloody. 

Squid Game

One of the biggest dramas ever to drop on Netflix, this Korean thriller tells the story of a gambling addict who has lost all hope before he is offered the chance to compete in a series of children’s games to win a huge life-changing amount of money. However, little does he and the other competitors in the game know that there will be deadly consequences for everyone who loses.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Created by David E Kelly, he behind Big Little Lies amongst others, this thrilling legal drama is a departure from some of the others on the list – but certainly has lots to keep you on the edge of your seat. Starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Neve Campbell it follows the story of a criminal defence lawyer who is recovering from addiction and runs the practice out of the back of his car. What’s not to like? 


Outer Banks

When his father goes missing, everyone assumes he is dead – but John will not believe it and decides to enlist the help of friends to go on a mission to find hs dad. But all is not as it first seems in this dark adventure set in North Carolina that will keep you guessing until the very end. 


An early Netflix original that perhaps doesn’t get talked about as much as it should after being superseded by a million other originals, this dark and seedy show follows the fortunes of a Florida-based family called the Rayburns. There are dark secrets and repercussions as the family meet up and the screw quickly begins to turn.



If you want suspense and excitement in your show, you can do a lot worse than watch a Jed Mercurio creation, and this show from the pen of the Line of Duty creator doesn’t not disappoint. Starring Game of Thrones Richard Madden opposite the always brilliant Keeley Hawes – expect many twists and turns before we reach the end. 

The Sinner

Bill Pullman puts in one of the best performances of his life as Harry Ambrose in the enthralling anthology series that sees him looking into crimes which appear to have common threads running through them all. There’s a lot of guessing to be done as Ambrose’s flawed, clearly brilliant mind tries to understand the truth in a murky world. 


A German show that often gets talked about in the best science fiction categories also has a huge amount of thrilling suspense to keep you glued to your television, phone or laptop. Set in a small town, comparisons are often made to Stranger Things in this show that follows a multigenerational story as layer upon layer of stories come unwound. 


Perhaps one of the best thrillers in the history of Netflix Originals, this story of crime, small towns and an increasingly out of control set of lives colliding in Missouri will have you gripped. Starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Julia Garner, the world of the Byrde family is explored in brilliant depth as you are left always feeling like something bad is about to happen… and it is!
