Tim Burton’s Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega has been renewed for season two by Netflix.
The show, which is based on the character of Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family as she embarks on life as a teenager at Nevermore Academy has become a huge hit for Netflix following its release on the streaming platform in November 2022, so it comes as no great surprise that a second season has been ordered.
In its first week of release, the Jenna Ortega-led show which also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Gwendoline Christie attracted 341.23 million viewing hours on Netflix; with 411.29 million hours viewed in its second week on the service. The show also became a cultural phenomenon on social media as people across the world made tribute videos of Wednesday’s Bloody Mary dance… even Lady gaga herself had a go!
In it, Ortega can be heard saying: “Over the past few weeks, I’ve been hunted, haunted and mimicked millions of times across the internet.
“It’s been pure torture. Thank you.”
Speaking of the renewal, Wednesday co-showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough told Netflix website, Tudum“: We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore.”
Adding: “We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
“It’s been incredible to create a show that’s connected with people across the world,” Millar and Gough add. “We’re thrilled to continue Wednesday’s torturous journey into Season 2.”
No date has been set for the release of Wednesday season two on Netflix but its likely we’ll have to wait until the end of 2023 or potentially even 2024 to find out what happens next at Nevermore Academy.
