The White Lotus season 3 – Is it happening, and when?
The White Lotus is without a doubt one of the best satires and comedy dramas of the past few years.
Mike White’s masterpiece has just finished its second season of the anthology series which was set on the Italian island of Sicily after the first season was set in a luxury resort on Hawaii.
With viewers still reeling from the deaths at the end of the second season of the HBO hit which starred Aubrey Plaza, Jennifer Coolidge, Will Sharpe, Theo James and Haley Lu Richardson as part of an ensemble cast, the attention has turned for many as to when and if there will be more of the brilliant show.
The good news is that fans of The White Lotus will be getting more of the series, but probably not for a little while.
In November, HBO, the cable network in the US that makes the show announced that The White Lotus has been renewed for a third season.
“I can’t wait to welcome you to the next White Lotus property” the tweet reads, followed by a short video that has the familiar music from the titles and a message that says “another vacation is in your future” and shows swirling waves that ten turns to a glass of red wine being poured into a glass.
The teaser video gives no clue as to where the new season of the show will be set and when the series will be released to viewers.
The first season of The White Lotus, which starred Murray Bartlett, Connie Britton, Sydney Sweeney and Jake Lacey among a large cast aired in June 2021 and was initially intended as a limited series that was self-contained. However, the huge success of the series saw HBO commission more of the show as an anthology that would tell new stories about the wealthy on their vacations at different White Lotus resorts across the globe.
Season 2 of The White Lotus began broadcasting in November 2022 and concluded with high drama in Sicily in December.
At present we don’t know when the new series of the show will be available to viewers, who can watch it on HBO in the US and Sky and NOW in the UK, but it would be an educated guess to say that filming will take place during 2023 and we’ll probably see more from the show in late 2023 or perhaps in 2024.
With Hawaii and Sicily as the two previous locations for the show, it’s not clear where in the world we will next see a bunch of miserable wealthy people on their vacation. Perhaps the Caribbean or maybe the show will move to Mexico or the Indian Ocean islands.
Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – we’re glad there’s going to be more of this brilliant show.
